About TORCH Missions

Our Beginning

TORCH stands for Training of Redeemed Christians Heaven-bound. From its beginning, TORCH Missions was established to introduce young Christians to mission work and encourage them to develop a lifelong commitment to serving God and others.

What began as a program focused on training young men and women for full-time and part-time missionary service has grown into an established short-term mission program involving youth, college students, adults, and entire congregations.

For more than 30 years, TORCH has provided opportunities for Christians to experience missions firsthand, develop their faith, and discover the importance of serving beyond their own communities.

A Foundation Built on Experience

One of the strengths of TORCH Missions is the experience and dedication of its team leaders. Many have spent years working in international missions and have developed lasting relationships with local churches, ministry partners, and communities.

These relationships provide valuable insight into the cultures, challenges, and needs of the areas where TORCH serves. They also allow teams to build upon the work of previous groups rather than approaching each trip as an isolated experience.

Many participants return for multiple mission trips, eventually becoming mentors and leaders themselves. This continuity has helped TORCH develop a strong foundation of experienced volunteers committed to the ministry's long-term success.

How TORCH Teams Operate

TORCH mission trips are organized through participating churches and experienced team leaders. Team sizes and trip lengths vary, with trips generally lasting one to two weeks.

Before a team arrives, leaders work with local ministry personnel to identify needs, coordinate projects, and establish schedules. This preparation allows participants to make the most of their time while ensuring that the work supports the priorities of the communities being served.

Team members also take an active role in preparing for their trips. Churches, families, schools, and local businesses often help collect supplies and provide resources needed for the planned activities.

This shared effort creates a sense of responsibility and teamwork before participants ever leave home.

Learning Through Experience

Education and personal growth have always been central to the TORCH program.

Participants are introduced to cultures, traditions, and ways of life that may be very different from their own. Living and working alongside local communities provides opportunities to develop compassion, adaptability, humility, and a broader understanding of the world.

TORCH encourages participants to recognize that effective mission work begins with listening, learning, and building relationships.

For many, these experiences shape their perspective on faith, service, and personal responsibility long after returning home.

A Legacy of Mission Service

Throughout its history, TORCH Missions has been strengthened by the commitment of churches, volunteers, team leaders, and supporters who believe in its purpose.

Some participants have gone on to pursue full-time mission work, while others have become leaders within their congregations or continued serving through local and international outreach.

As TORCH looks toward the future, its original vision remains unchanged: to prepare and inspire Christians to live out their faith through meaningful service, wherever God may lead them.
